Why I am Running for Lansing City Council

My name is Missy Lilje and I’m running for an at-large seat on the Lansing City Council. I’m running because I care about people and the quality of life we are able to create as residents of Lansing.

I see poverty and racism as the two biggest problems facing the city. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot more than two challenges facing us here in Lansing, but I believe most of them stem from these top two issues.

I believe the best strategy to address these issues is to promote economic development and bring equity to the center of these discussions.

I hear from a lot of people that they are looking for a governance process that is kind and respectful, and I’m running to fight for that. Serving on the school board has given me a thick skin and experience debating issues, writing policy, overseeing a large budget, and doing it to serve a greater good. I’m looking forward to bringing that vision and experience to the Council.

I love this city because of the people, and the history. I want to serve to make Lansing a better place. Kindness, respect, openness, courage. These are the attributes I can bring to this office.
