This blog is a request for peace. We ask Washtenaw County Prosecutor Brian Mackie, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy, the Taylor Police Department, the Canton Police Department and the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office to stand together and do the right thing. Victims should not face prosecutions. We need peace, we need justice and we need it now.

The video shows She’tina Grady El, a black woman being beaten by a white sheriff’s officer in Washtenaw County, Michigan. The video also sees her husband, Daniel Grady El, getter tasered. As I watched this video over and over again, I felt empty inside and the realization that this was happening 10 minutes from my home was horrifying. I immediately offered my legal assistance and met with the family and since then my life has changed.
The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department requested the following charges from the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office:
She’tina-1 count resist and obstructing causing injury, 2 counts resist and obstructing, MDOP police property. Daniel-3 counts resist and obstructing. How was it possible that the victims in this video were being charged with crimes? At this point, the prosecutor’s office has not followed the lead of the sheriff’s office but the tragedy for this family continues as She’tina is charged with resisting and obstruction in Taylor and Canton, Michigan. The video of the Canton, Michigan police stop can be seen here:
To take these cases to trial will mean that tragedy may occur. We have to consider where our society would be if the Internet was present in 1992 when the Rodney King tragedy occurred.
