WEBBERVILLE LIBRARIAN HONORED AS A “RISING STAR”

Capital Area District Libraries (CADL) is proud to announce that Webberville Head Librarian Amanda Vorce received the Rising Star Award at the 2022 Michigan Library Awards.

This is CADL’s third Michigan Library Award in four years. CADL received the State Librarian’s Excellence Award in 2019 and the Public Librarian of the Year Award in 2020. The Rising Star Award recognizes a librarian who shows leadership early in their career. While new to the profession, winners of this award are forward-thinking, expand the role of librarians and move libraries into the future. Vorce joined CADL as Head Librarian of the Webberville Branch in the spring of 2020. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she was at the forefront of expanding her library’s services during a time of community need. She ensured children could practice their early literacy skills by creating Storytime-to-Go kits as well as Take and Make craft kits. More recently, she started hosting a series of pop-up storytimes at local farms in the Webberville and Williamston communities. Prior to joining CADL, Vorce was a youth services librarian for several years and had an extensive background working with younger library patrons. She holds a master’s degree in Library and Information Science from Wayne State University and a bachelor’s degree in Music from Bennington College.

“What stands out about Amanda is that, for being so new to the profession, she is comfortable in taking initiative and developing services that fit the needs of her community,” said CADL Executive Director Scott Duimstra. “She is fantastic and so deserving of the Rising Star Award.”
