Thread of Hope Records, a local company that uses music, visual and performing arts to promote Social & Emotional Learning (SEL) has partnered with Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School in the BHAS. Upon completion of the program, students will have the opportunity to participate in the JUST ME production. JUST ME is a fun-filled journey utilizing music to strengthen students' Self-Discovery, Self-Expression and Self Awareness. On May 23, 2023, at 12:30pm, over 250 MLK students will showcase their talents and share their experiences at the Benton Harbor High School Performing Arts Center for parents, staff and the community.

The students have been working extremely hard and will take the audience on a fun-filled journey of self-discovery, promoting important positive messages about love, respect, and relationship building to prevent bullying, violence, suicide, and low self-esteem. . "At Benton Harbor Area School's Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School, we believe in promoting social/emotional learning, and providing our students with opportunities for self- expression and self-discovery," said Ms. Rockette, Principal of Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School. "Through our partnership with Thread of Hope Records, we are proud to present JUST ME using the talents of our students, while promoting positive messages as well as identifying how negative behavior can cause, self-harm and harm to oneself when not addressed in time. The approach of utilizing music and the arts addressing social and emotional learning and self-discovery, has been amazing for the students.”

"We are thrilled to be partnering Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School on this important initiative," said Bonita Mitchell, Founder and Executive Director of Thread of Hope Records. "Through music and creativity, we can empower young people to express themselves, discover their passions, and promote positive social and emotional development, for lifelong success. We have data that supports the work that we are doing and when young people are well, we will notice a decrease in violence in schools and the community. It is my goal that our program/SEL curriculum can be in schools throughout the country! ”
