Why did it happen? That is what folks across the nation are wondering following an incident on the University of Virginia campus where three football players were shot dead.
The victims, Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis, and D'Sean Perry were killed late Sunday night as they were getting off the bus from a team trip to see a play.
Christopher Darnell Jones Jr., a fellow UVA student and football player, is in custody today after being arrested several hours after the shooting incident.
Jones's father told reporters that his son said he was "being picked on" by some people. He was not more specific. Police say a motive for Sunday's shooting, during which two other football players were shot and wounded, is unclear.
According to government statistics, young African-American men in the age group of the UVA victims (18-35), are just 3% of the total U.S. population -- but are 32%, nearly a third, of all Americans shot to death each year.
