Paul Pelosi, the 82-year-old husband of the speaker of the U.S. House is undergoing skull fracture surgery (at 5:25 pm EDT) in a San Francisco hospital. Speaker Pelosi's office is expressing optimism that he will fully recover from being assaulted early this morning by a man who broke into their home, reportedly screaming, "Where's Nancy?"
Just a word of caution, this is an elderly man who suffered a brutal assault and is having his brain operated on. It could be a while before he'll be considered "out of the woods."
Police have 42-year-old David DePape (pictured below on the left) in custody. He is facing several felony charges including attempted murder. The native of Canada is described as a "Hemp jewelry maker and a former nudist." A check of his social media accounts found lots of far-right-wing conspiracy theories. He also posted that any journalist who claimed the 2020 U.S. presidential election wasn't fraudulent, "should be taken outside and shot!"
The prayers and well-wishes for Paul Pelosi have been pouring in from Republicans and Democrats. The shock and revulsion at this apparently politically motivated assault on the spouse of the #3 person in the U.S. government, seems widespread.
