“When we got the leak a year ago that Roe was going to be overturned – Michigan had a ballot proposal already ready.”

Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin released the following statement on the first anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade:

"In the year since Roe was overturned, Michigan has become the blueprint for what can be done at the state level, but more must be done at the federal level," said Slotkin. "I hope to bring the strategic planning from my national security life to the Senate and help develop a plan for how we can go on offense to protect our fundamental rights." [@Elissa Slotkin]Last week, Slotkin joined Rachel Vindman on The Suburban Women Problem podcast to discuss an array of issues, including why Democrats need a strategic plan to protect women’s reproductive health choices as Republicans continue to push for new abortion bans at the state and federal level. Slotkin was also recently featured on the New York Times podcast, “The Run Up," where she argued Democrats need to go on the offensive when it comes to social issues including abortion rights.

Listen to both the full: “The Suburban Women Problem” episode Here “The Run Up” episode Here Highlights:

  • "If we had just been sitting there and said we’re about to lose the right to an abortion here because we were a full ban state – then we’d be living in a state right now where we can’t have a safe D&C for a miscarriage."

  • “We’re almost a year after the overturning of Roe, and where is our five-point plan where all the agencies, all the advocacy organizations, all the leaders in the House and Senate get together and say, this is what we’re doing? What’s our legal strategy so that we’re pushing cases through the courts, not just the other side so that a judge in Texas doesn’t get to decide if women in Michigan get an abortion?”

  • “What’s our 50 state plan for more ballot initiatives? What’s our corporate strategy? Why are big companies having big conferences in Texas where, God forbid, one of the women has a miscarriage? We know that the doctors in Texas are telling women that they’re not sick enough. They don’t have a high enough fever. Come back later.”

  • “Where is our offensive plan? That is where you’re going to see me agree across the board with lots of other people in the Democratic Party. We need — and that’s one of the things I hope to bring — is some of that strategic planning from my own national security life to protecting our rights and our democracy.”
