ONE INMATE KILLED ANOTHER HURT AT PRISON IN MACOMB COUNTY

Updated: Oct 28, 2022

Two serious crimes, a murder, and a stabbing assault, both inside a Michigan prison, are being investigated now by the Michigan State Police. The incidents happened Wednesday morning at the Macomb Correctional Facility in the metro-Detroit town of Lennox.

"On the way back from chow lines this morning, a ... prisoner in the Residential Treatment Program unit stabbed another prisoner multiple times in the back, arm, and face," Michigan Department of Corrections Deputy Director Jeremy Bush said in a memo to staff, obtained by the Detroit Free Press.

After subduing the prisoner and calling an ambulance for the man who was stabbed, prison officials went to the cell of the alleged prisoner assailant to conduct a search for contraband, Bush said. There, staff found his cellmate suffering from severe injuries. That prisoner later died, despite efforts by staff to save him.

The motive for the assaults is not yet known. Michigan State Police are investigating.

Corrections Department spokesman Chris Gault says the assaultive prisoner is being moved to a higher security facility.
