The University of Michigan football family is mourning the loss of 'Superfan' Dametrius "Meechie" Walker.
He died Friday morning at the age of 20.
Meechie was a high school football star at Muskegon High School and had planned on playing for the Wolverines -- the realization of a lifelong dream.
Sadly, Walker was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer and had to quit football before his senior year of high school.
Coach Jim Harbaugh invited Meechie to U of M's home game against Maryland on September 24th of this year and made him an honorary co-Captain. It was his first and only visit to a game at the Big House (Michigan Stadium).
The Wolverines won 34-27 and Coach Harbaugh awarded him the game ball.
Hopefully, Meechie's 2-year-old son will treasure that gift of love from the Michigan football team as much as he did.
RIP, Meechie. And GO BLUE!
