The Lansing Economic Area Partnership (LEAP) has submitted more than 100 letters of support for the proposed Michigan Manufacturing Innovation Campus (MMIC) in Eagle Township from individuals, businesses, alliances and nonprofits from the tri-county area and beyond. The list of supporters includes small business owners, property owners, teachers and business leaders. The letters will be received by the Clinton County Planning Commission, Clinton County Board of Commissioners and the Eagle Township Board of Trustees.

The MMIC will play a critical role in bringing our supply chain back to the United States and will create thousands of good paying jobs in industries like construction, manufacturing, technology and engineering. Neighboring states like Ohio, Tennessee, and Kentucky work tirelessly to draw companies and talent from across the country, Michigan is finally doing the same.

“This campus will bring all kinds of jobs to the area,” Kirk Crowner, a retired union GM employee, resident of Grand Ledge and Eagle Township property owner, said. “We should be doing everything we can to support efforts like this that will mean a stable workforce for decades to come.”

Jeff Parks, a robotics coach at Waverly High School in Lansing, says it’s important to remember that the MMIC will create jobs and opportunities that will benefit the entire tri-country area and beyond. “We’re seeing great interest in the tech industry from our young people today and being able to offer them a rewarding, long-term career right here at home will help keep them here and prevent brain drain.”

The proposed MMIC site is located near an interstate interchange, an industrial park/airport, a state highway and within 15 minutes of Michigan State University, Lansing Community College, and downtown Lansing and East Lansing. Not only is the site uniquely positioned for a once-in-a-generation opportunity for Eagle Township, Clinton County, the region, state and country, it’s the only site in the tri-county region large enough to support the type of large scale, transformative developments needed to bring massive amounts of local jobs to the region.

In addition to creating local jobs, the MMIC will support the growth of our small businesses, new housing, more funding for schools, roads, parks and so much more.

The smart plan for developing the Michigan Manufacturing Innovation Campus site is pragmatic and aims to minimize impact on the environment and our agricultural way of life.

LEAP President and CEO Bob Trezise said, "The growing base of support for the Michigan Manufacturing Innovation Campus demonstrates the community's belief that this project will drive economic growth, job creation and innovation. We are excited about the potential of the MMIC to bring our supply chain back to the U.S. and keep the next generation of talented, young people here in Michigan where they belong.”

Bob Trezise and Kirk Crowner are both available for interviews.
