Eight $500 grants from the credit union to help pay for classroom supplies, alleviate personal financial burden on educators; applications due May 19.

LAFCU is accepting grant applications from Michigan teachers to allow them to purchase needed materials to help students succeed and thrive in the classroom without placing a financial burden on the teacher.

The Michigan credit union will distribute $500 grants to eight entrants for a total of $4,000 as part of the LAFCU Teachers Grant.

Michigan teachers are encouraged to complete a very brief application online at www.lafcu.com/teachersgrant now through May 19. To apply, teachers will describe in a few sentences how the funds would be beneficial to their classroom and students. Winners will be selected in early June.

Entrants are not required to be members of LAFCU but must be legal residents of Michigan and pre-K through 12th-grade teachers for fall 2023. Up to two $500 donations may be awarded per school building.

“In the past, LAFCU has partnered with local schools and provided those teachers with grants, but we wanted to open the opportunity to all teachers in Michigan,” said Shelia Scott, LAFCU community financial education & business development officer. “These grants recognize the importance of educating our children and giving back to all the communities we serve,” Scott said. “Teachers already do so much for our children and are helping daily to educate and empower the next generation, so we are thrilled that LAFCU can make teachers' lives a little easier.”
