On this day, November 9, 1993, RZA, GZA, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, U-God, and Masta Killa released their debut album “Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers).”
Wu-Tang Clan has become one of the most influential hip-hop groups in music history.
Taking their name from the 1983 martial arts film “Shaolin and Wu-Tang” (snippets of its English dub can be heard throughout the album), Wu-Tang Clan was an unconventionally large group, with each rapper displaying a distinctive voice and lyrical style.
While every member brought a little something to the mix, RZA was the genius producer behind the album’s raw, lo-fi feel, featured in megahits like “Protect Ya Neck” and “C.R.E.A.M.” As a group, Wu-Tang Clan has released seven studio albums, but that number climbs up to several dozen when including each member’s solo releases.
