Across Michigan, the woods will be alive with the sounds of gunfire!
The state's firearm deer hunting season kicks off today (Nov. 15) and lasts for just over two weeks until Nov. 30th, with thousands of hunters heading north to try and get a deer.
This is the first year that hunters will have to report their harvest online or risk a fine. The Department of Natural Resources is now requiring all Michigan deer hunters to report their kills within 72 hours of recovery or risk being fined.
The new rule comes following a low response rate from hunters about their harvest in years past.
Hunters use firearms to kill about 365,000 deer a season in Michigan.
