Oscar-winning actress Julia Roberts says her birth was paid for by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his wife Coretta!
She recently revealed that in an interview with CBS News Gayle King, explaining that her parents and the late Civil Rights leader and his wife became friends when they were all living in Atlanta and the Roberts' were running a small acting school.
The acting coaches had accepted the King’s children into their school. It was a time of widespread segregation in the South, the King's couldn’t find any other theatre school to take in their kids.
The Roberts turned to the Kings for help just before Julia was born on October 28, 1967.
It has been reported that a Ku Klux Klan member exploded a car outside one of Betty and Walter Roberts’ plays in response to the King’s daughter Yolanda being cast in a role where she had to kiss a white actor.
