Meet Chatum Taylor, a Lansing native and graduate of Everett High School. Chatum resides in Lansing, Michigan. Though her journey as a single mother has not been easy, it has fostered the resilience and fortitude that has shaped her into both an effective career woman and a dedicated community servant.
Chatum graduated from Lansing Community College, (LCC) and later earned her Bachelor's Degree in Management from the University of Phoenix—all while raising her daughter and working full-time at what was then State Employees Credit Union, now Lake Trust Credit Union.
Chatum found her niche in financial services starting as a teller, and quickly advancing to Branch Manager at Capital Area School Employees (CASE) Credit Union. During her six years managing two branches-one of which was in the heart of the LCC campus within the Gannon Building-she took pride in making a difference in the lives of youth and prospective students.
At LCC, Chatum and her team were devoted to helping students take steps toward managing their financial futures. With a daughter currently a senior at the University of Michigan studying to become a doctor, Chatum understands firsthand the importance of having relatable mentors in one’s life.
"It wasn’t easy raising my daughter as a struggling single mom, but I was determined.” Chatum reflects. "And I was proud to do it." This same passion and dedication is what she promises to bring to others' students.
With over twenty years of experience in the finance industry, Chatum currently serves as a Member Experience Manager at Lake Trust Credit Union. She is also a leader at Mt. Zion All Nations Bible Church under the guidance of Pastor H. Levi McClendon III and Lady Mya McClendon. Over her fifteen years of ministry, Chatum has been steadfast in her faith, following the Gospel of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her faith is her center and foundation.
As a board member of the City Rescue Mission, Chatum is deeply involved in the ministry work she loves, helping the underserved. She has a special interest in youth leadership and is passionate about serving others.
Chatum is a dedicated advocate for educational excellence and community empowerment, and seeks to further her impact by serving as a member of the LCC Board of Trustees. With a proven track record of leadership and collaboration, as well as a deep commitment to higher education, Chatum brings a wealth of experience and passion to the role.
As a resident of Lansing, an active community member, and the mother of a college student, Chatum understands the unique challenges faced by students, faculty, and staff at LCC. Her background in finance and community engagement has given her firsthand knowledge of the transformative power of education and its impact on individuals and communities.
Through her work, she has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to fostering inclusivity, diversity, and equity in all aspects of education, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their background or circumstances.
Chatum's vision for LCC is one of innovation, excellence, and a student-centered approach. She is committed to working collaboratively with fellow board members, administrators, faculty, and community stakeholders to develop policies and initiatives that promote community advocacy, academic excellence, and financial wellness.
With her strong communication skills, strategic thinking, and dedication to serving the community, Chatum Taylor is poised to make a meaningful and positive impact as a member of the Lansing Community College Board of Trustees.
