SOUL FIBER: BLACK WOMEN IN LENT – Encumbered by Many Things

41Oh Martha, Martha, you are so anxious and concerned about a million details, 42but really, only one thing matters. Mary has chosen that one thing, and I won’t take it away from her.” Luke 10:41-42 The VOICE

And God: “The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an open world action role-playing video game. Its main story revolves around the player character and their quest to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world.”

Who would have thought that an ancient prophesy would have influenced a 21th Century role-playing video game?” Only by the genius of Divine impact. There is no way around the Infinite KNOWER. How may humanity get to KNOW the Infinite KNOWER? Skyrim gives us this clue “we must choose what encumbrances to leave behind.”

The Martha Syndrome and the big three hindrances to Spiritual awareness are: haste, noise, and busy-ness. Martha – sister of Mary and Lazarus, bought into the role relegated to most women in the Bible and many women in contemporary life – doing, doing, doing. While Mary was into being, being, being. Martha was in the kitchen cooking and cleaning; Mary was in the living room present with the Jewish Jesus. Mary was interested in having a relationship; Martha was encumbered by religious duties.

In the words of Avatar “It’s [religion] good for what it’s good for.” As “doing” is important, for there is much to BE done; to BE present in our doing is paramount to having a growing, spiritually-aware relationship with Mary’s Jewish Jesus.

"To be, or not to be" is the opening phrase of William Shakespeare's play Hamlet. This is still the question if humanity is to leave some things behind in order to BE unencumbered by many things.

Pray with me: Dear God, bless me with the desire to BE Spiritually aware in all my doing; knowing that wherever You are there is Life, Light, Love, Truth, and Grace.
