CREATING CONFIDENT CAREGIVERS® WORKSHOPS OFFERED

Lansing: The Tri-County Office on Aging (TCOA) is pleased to offer a new session of the popular Creating Confident Caregivers® program for non-professional caregivers of persons with dementia. The six-week session will be held on Tuesdays at the TCOA central office in Lansing beginning January 16 through February 20, 2018 from 4:30– 6:30pm.

The evidence-based program, based on the Savvy Caregiver curriculum, teaches participants a unique perspective on dementia. Participants learn new ways to understand the difficult behaviors resulting from the disease and gain tools to make their role as caregiver less overwhelming. The class emphasizes the importance of self-care for the caregiver and helps them understand that reducing their stress level can have a significant effect on their loved one.

The series provides caregivers with information and tools to create episodes of contented involvement for both the caregivers and their family member. When caregivers learn to how to create contented involvement, they are able to enjoy their time together.

The program is offered locally at no cost to non-professional caregivers. Pre-registration is required. Respite care for your family member may be available at no cost while attending the sessions – please ask in advance of the workshop. To register, or for more information about classes, contact Linda Davis at 517-887-1447 or 1-800-405-9141.

The following is an excerpt from a letter from someone who has completed the class….

“How can I best describe the value of this program for me personally? I am, at the moment, getting ready to drive to Ashawa, Ontario, to spend several weeks with my sister, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s several years ago. And unlike earlier (caregiving) visits, I am

excited, hopeful, knowledgeable, more realistic, better prepared and for the first time, confident about my own capabilities…”
